Film Leader | lapointedesign

Film Leader is a magazine I designed in 2014. The magazine is comprised of articles on every type of movie from animation to independent. One feature I am proud of making is page numbers that represent a films beginning countdown. Subtly behind the page numbers are roman numerals, which are how scene numbers are written in scripts. All the advertising are redesigns of companies ads I found in the local area. A lot of work went into making this, but I think it was worth it.

The Title's Meaning

When movies were projected with film, they began with a countdown used for threading the film. This was called a film leader. The title also suggest that the magazine is the lead in film information. The magazine has a front section called Motor Cue and a back section called Changeover Cue. These are named after the two marks projectionists used for indication of a reel needing to be exchanged.
